Pin-Up Girls Making a Comback for Spring/Summer 2008

For Spring/Summer 2008, fashion designers are showing a penchant for the pin-up, the retro images of seductively posed, brightly (and slightly) clad women.

Louis Vuitton is one such design house, showcasing six top supermodels in their ad campaign their Spring/Summer 2008 Collection. LV created these glamorous shots with Stephanie Seymour, Eva Herzigova, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Angela Lindvall and Natalia Vodianova.
LV Creative Director Marc Jacobs noted, “I thought the idea of hot chicks and cars was really cool - and very Richard Prince.” Jacobs collaborated with iconic artist and photographer Richard Prince for the campaign. Prince volunteered his 1970 Dodge Challenger for the shoot.

And speaking of pin-ups...

Dita Von Teese has been named as the new Wonderbra model for 2008. Along with the modeling contract, the burlesque star will also be designing her very own Lingerie collection.

Dita Von Teese is known for a New York performance that showcased her completely naked, while being suggestively covered with $ 5 Million worth of diamonds. (In complete contrast of her glamorous image, she was formerly - and famously - married to macabre rocker Marilyn Manson.)

We can expect new photos of the in the next coming weeks, as she is expected to start her photo shoots for Wonderbra in Paris. “I’ve been passionate about beautiful lingerie my entire life, so to team up with Wonderbra, a brand that is known for undergarments of exceptional quality and beauty is a great privilege for me, and I am immensely proud of the collection,” Dita said. “I really hope that with this new range I can share my passion for sensual, wearable lingerie that will add a touch of glamour to people’s everyday lives.”

Louis Vuitton bag, lingerie, or not, wouldn't YOU like to look this glamorous?...

Well, lo and behold, there are professionals here in Birmingham who can help you do just that! Enter "Birmingham Bombshells." In a downtown loft studio, contemporary Birmingham women are being transformed into pin-up girls in the style of silver-screen glamour goddesses from the ‘40s. Professional make-up artists and hairstylists are on hand to help you achieve this iconic look. (Would this be a FAB Valentine's Gift for your significant other or what???)

“Women enjoy being able to live the fantasy,” said Angela Karen, the creative photograher behind Birmingham Bombshells. “We may have to be all business at work or school, but it’s fun now and then to let the girl inside come out and play.”

One of the modern-day pinups, Susan, added, “It’s for my guy, but it’s also for me. It will also be nice to have something to look back at when I’m 93 and smile. Maybe I’ll scandalize my great grandchildren and prove to them that granny was a hottie in her day.” (Feeling
good about oneself is always chic!)

Angela says they get a lot of requests for poses made famous by classic pinups such as Betty Grable, Marilyn Monroe or Rita Hayworth, "Other clients want to look glamourous, but to express their own originality. My main goal in shooting this type of portrait is to make the client feel special and beautiful, and to let them share that beauty with the people they love.”

Vintage-style pinup portraits have also been very popular among military wives. Instead of the traditional care packages, they send pinups, CDs or memory books with sultry pictures of themselves.
